Draper, UT Temple

Saturday night I went with our Young Men and Young Women to the Draper, UT Temple Open House. What a fabulous experience! The temple is beautiful both inside and out. There were hand painted murals on the walls in some of the rooms. An usher told me that the artists who painted them were given a calling to come in and paint the murals. A lot of the artwork inside was done by Utah artists. Here is an excerpt from the pamphlet:

"The Draper Temple is the 129th temple for the Church and the 12th in Utah. The granite for the exterior was imported from China, and several interior finishes were also imported, including limestone from France and cherry wood from central Africa."

"The temple will serve approximately 60,000 members in Draper and the surrounding area. It will be open to the public for tours from January 15 through March 14, 2009. The temple will be dedicated during 12 special services from March 20 through March 22, 2009."

The young women were so excited about seeing the temple and asked a lot of questions. It was a great learning experience for them and I was grateful to be a part of it. In Sacrament Meeting the next day 5 of the young women got up and bore their testimonies about temples and the experiences they'd had at the Draper Temple Open House. In Young Women's the girls talked of nothing else and kept talking about their favorite rooms, mainly the Bride's Room and the Celestial Room. I look forward to going back again at the end of the month with my family.
