Family Ties

In the beginning of June my dad mentioned my mother got an invitation in the mail for a Wilkerson/Workman family reunion. Wilkerson is my mother's maiden name so it's her father's side of the family. On the invitation was a note that there was a Wilkerson family history book available. I called the number to order a book and had the privilege of being able to get a book right away. My grandfather's cousin Violet Wilkerson Voss was in Utah County for a class reunion and came by my house to give me the book on June 19th. I was able to visit with her and her sister-in-law Donna Wilkerson. It was so nice to meet them and talk with them about my family. I look forward to attending the reunion in a few weeks and getting to know more of my grandfather's family. The book is fabulous with a lot of family history stories. I found out that one of my ancestor's fought in the Revolutionary War. This has really kindled my interest in family history and genealogy.

On the 25th of July my dad called me and told me my mother's cousin Sarah Jean was in town from South Carolina and wanted to come visit. My sister Bonnie and I went to my dad's to see her. It was so nice to visit with her and her husband and daughter. They asked us to take them to see my mother's grave along with my grandparents graves. I really enjoyed listening to their southern accents and it made me miss hearing my mother's. It was good to talk to Sarah Jean about my mother and I found out that she and my mother were baptized on the same day. It was so good to reconnect with family that I hadn't seen in years. I'm so grateful for the opportunity I've had to reconnect with family from both sides of my mother's family. I look forward to staying in touch and learning more about them and my ancestors.

It was so good to see Sarah Jean and Jeannie! It made me homesick for South Carolina! It was so good to talk with them about Mom and share memories!

FYI Amy,

I'm trying to gather some family history on the Workman side that came from Nauvoo. When I get more information, I can send it to you if you'd like.
