Thanksgiving

We spent Thanksgiving with my family this year. It was much better than I thought it would be considering it was the first without my mother. We spent the day at my dad's with my sister's and their families. My cousin Jenny also came. We cooked, ate, visited, ate some more and enjoyed the day. All the cousins had a great time playing with each other. My sister's and I were able to talk on the phone to my Aunt Lillie who lives in Indiana. She is my mother's older sister.
My sister Debbie brought a home movie from Christmas time in 1990. We watched my Granddaddy Wilkerson read a favorite poem of his, "Da Leetla Boy". It was so sweet to hear his voice. It was really fun to watch the family and remember holidays past. The best part was the evening when my sisters, my dad and I got together. We set up our video camera's and taped my dad while we asked him questions about my mother. He told us from his perspective how they met, about their courtship, wedding and into the first years of their marriage. It was such a treasure to learn more about their early life together. I'm so grateful we were able to do that. It especially means a lot to me since my dad will be getting re-married January 15th. We don't have many more opportunities to get that kind of information from him. It was a good day and now we are getting ready for Christmas.
